Dr. Jacqueline Brending
Clear Lake Eye Center was founded by Dr. Brending in August 1994. Her professional interests include: general optometry, therapeutic optometry, glaucoma specialty, and the fitting of glasses and contact lenses, including bifocal rigid oxygen permeable and soft multifocal contact lenses. She is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist. She provides red eye medical treatment, macular degeneration treatment, glaucoma treatment, and co-management of LASIK surgery and cataract surgery.
Dr. Alma Hernandez
Dr. Alma Hernandez is a native Houstonian and holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Houston. She received her Doctorate in Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, receiving honors in her clinical rotations. Dr. Hernandez practices full scope optometry and offers comprehensive eye care. Her clinical interests include fitting of glasses and contact lenses including specialty contact lenses, management and treatment of glaucoma and systemically derived ocular disease such as diabetes and dry eye therapies and treatments. She enjoys working with adults and children alike and takes great pleasure in helping her patients see. Dr. Hernandez is fluent in English and Spanish. In her free time Dr. Hernandez enjoys spending time with her two young boys and her husband. She also enjoys reading and is an avid runner.
Dr. Jacquelin Escoto
Dr. Jacquelin Escoto, O.D., received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Houston. She then continued her education at the University of Houston College of Optometry where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree. During her optometric training, Dr. Escoto received extensive training in the areas of primary care, contact lenses, including specialty contact lenses and myopia control, ocular disease management, pediatrics, co management of cataract and refractive surgery, and neuro-optometric exams. She is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association and as a student participated with the Volunteer Optometry Services to Humanity and National Optometric Association. In her free time, Dr. Escoto enjoys spending time with family, friends, her two dogs, and traveling to national parks.
Senior Ophthalmic Technician
Jennifer joined us in 2011 with an ophthalmology background and works as our senior ophthalmic technician. She also helps patients with glasses and contact lenses. Her favorite frames are either her Diors, her prescribed Maui Jim sunglasses, or occasionally wearing contact lenses for recreational activities. She enjoys spending her free time with her family.
Practice Manager / Certified Optician
Mikel is our practice manager and has been with Clear Lake Eye Center since 2007. He enjoys personalizing glasses to the patients’ needs and helping patients overcome any challenges with their vision. Mikel has an Advanced Certification in Ophthalmic Optics from the American Board of Opticianry. The ABO-AC is earned only after a practitioner has attained several years’ experience, completed a prescribed curriculum of advanced education, and achieved a passing score on the rigorous national examinations. Mikel is one of only 15 people in the state of Texas to have an active certification at this level! He particularly enjoys working with patients who experience headaches, eye strain, nausea or reading difficulties because he can use the doctor’s prescription to design special Neurolens prism glasses, iseikonic or isogonal lenses to help their eyes work better together.
Mikel most enjoys the emphasis Clear Lake Eye Center puts on having educated and caring staff because it allows a greater level of attention for our patients. He also serves in the Army National Guard as a Non-Commissioned Officer and musician in the 36th Infantry Division Band. He is blessed with a beautiful a wife and 2 wonderful daughters.
After 36 plus years in the optical field, and as certified optician since 2008 and, Cindi still absolutely loves and enjoys every facet of the the job. She has been with us since August 2014 and from assisting the doctors, to fitting and fabricating glasses and contact lenses, she considers her job a blessing. “I find it very hard to call it work at all. I truly love and enjoy helping people to see and I consider sight to be the most precious of our senses!”
Shannon started here in January of 2010. Her favorite frames are Silhouettes and anything with bright colors. She does a little bit of everything in our office including insurance coordination, patient work ups and even frame styling. In her free time she is working towards her bachelors in education and spending time with her family.
Mary Lou started here in August of 2013 and she has over 17 years of experience in the Optical industry and has her ABO and NCLE Certifications. She specializes in strong customer service, attention to detail and quality, updated knowledge of frames and lenses and contact lenses. She currently wears a beautiful pair of Roberto Cavalli glasses or Maui Jim sunglasses.
